Many of the abandoned animals we rescue are from "killing stations"
Some of the animals we resuce are from what is known in Spain as a “Perrera” - the English translation for this is “Killing station”.
Lots are in very poor condition and the dogs and cats are packed together in small kennels and left with little or no food or water. More often than not, injured animals are left to suffer and infection spreads rapidly. For example, one kitten was thrown into a cage and got it´s paw trapped in the metal door when it was slammed shut. It was left like that for days, with its paw swollen and damaged and still trapped between the steel surfaces, before one of our helpers found it and ensured that it received medical attention before it’s eventual re-homing.
Approximately every 10 days these animals are all killed. The lucky animals will go to a killing station where they are fed and watered for 10 days and then are put to sleep humanely. The unlucky animals are thrown on top of each other in very small cages, given no food or water during this period of enforced captivity and, understandably, endure a great deal of fear and suffering.
